You will have a chance to twist and turn the block to play with your repeat before finally printing. This workshop provides a creative approach to pattern. \nYou will come away from this session with knowledge of the fabrics and inks involved in the block printing process and a length of your very own hand block printed design onto a natural linen fabric. \nAll materials included. \nSuitable for beginners\, everyone welcome.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true”][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”Your Tutor” css=”.vc_custom_1706348902795{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 20px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Louisa Loakes \nLouisa’s work blends elements from her fine art practice and her intuitive approach to textiles. During her time studying at Wimbledon School of Art\, Louisa developed a particular interest in Abstract painting\, which continues to ground and guide her work across a range of mediums. \nWorking from her studio in Peckham\, Louisa’s practice is focused on the beautifully simple\, slow art of hand-carved block printing. Having spent many years researching the craft\, she draws particular inspiration from the processes involved in traditional Indian block printing\, and her practice interweaves Eastern folk art traditions with forms and patterns familiar to western languages of abstraction. As a self-taught block printer\, she approaches fabric like a painting – or one of her charcoal drawings – creating delicate\, twisting patterns that repeat themselves across its surface. Distinctive in their simple use of geometric form\, monochromatic palette and signature dash of hand-painted colour\, Louisa’s hand-carved block printed patterns are charged with a human touch\, the irregularities that appear in the printing process giving each piece a distinct energy and identity. \nLouisa hosts block printing workshops around the country\, past workshops have included Burberry Makers House\, The New Craftsmen\, Charleston House & gardens\, Blyth Gallery / Imperial College London\, South London Gallery\, TOAST\, Peckham Craft Show\, Selvedge Magazine\, Museum of Arts & Crafts Ditchling\, SOHO House\, Daylesford Organic Farm and Dulwich Picture Gallery. \nwww.louisaloakes.com[/vc_column_text]Instagram[/vc_column][/vc_row]

Participants will be required to bring along a pre-existing worked copper plate to develop further on the course. This will be used as a basis to explore new techniques and approaches in both platemaking and printing\, with the aim of pushing individuals practice forward. There will also be the opportunity to develop a new piece of work on the course. \nThere will be refreshers in fundamental traditional etching techniques\, but the focus will be geared towards developing new ways of working. We hope to encourage conversation and problem solving within a small\, nurturing group of up to 8 people. \nThis is an opportunity to try things out with support and guidance\, and have use of the INK on PAPER PRESS printmaking facilities. He has had a longstanding fascination with technology and architectural forms\, these have included structures within industry\, agriculture\, science and the military. \nThe traditional print process of etching enables Ian to record his subject matter and offers a freshness and originality to the work\, taking it away from mere direct representation and embraces and accepts the idea of the artwork evolving and shifting throughout its creation. The etching process becomes a natural extension of Ian’s drawing practice\, offering a diversity of mark making and tone that can capture the form\, volume and surface qualities of the structures recorded. The continual erosion of the plate is echoed in the subject matter themselves and in the process used to record it. \nIan Chamberlain has exhibited nationally and internationally\, his prints and drawings are held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum\, London; Tate Modern\, London; Bristol Museum; Royal West of England Academy\, Bristol; Pallant House Gallery\, Chichester; The University of Chichester collection; The Ashmolean\, Oxford and Chippenham Museum. \nIan Chamberlain lives and works in Bristol\, UK. In addition to his studio practice he is Senior\nLecturer in M.A Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking at The University of the West of England\, Bristol\, UK. \nhttp://ichamberlain.co.uk[/vc_column_text]Instagram[/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Amy-Jane Blackhall \nAmy-Jane Blackhall is an artist and printmaker. Her work is inspired by the ritual and rhythm of the printmaking process. Underlying structures are central to her imagery; derived from sacred places\, she frequently references archetypal symbols\, Oriental art and Eastern ideologies. \nIn 2015 Blackhall established her own Fine Art print and editioning studio\, INK on PAPER PRESS\, now based at The Stores Studios in Wiltshire\, UK where she works with artists on a one-to-one basis to originate and edition prints\, alongside developing her own art practice. The studio specialises in intaglio and relief processes and offers creative solutions from origination to editioning\, including print hand finishing. INK on PAPER PRESS is currently the main print editioning studio for Royal Academician\, Emma Stibbon. \nBlackhall trained under Master Printer Jack Shirreff at 107 Workshop\, where she worked on editions for Howard Hodgkin\, Gillian Ayres & Patrick Hughes. She also has teaching experience and worked as Studio Printmaker for Rabley Drawing Centre and continues to collaborate with Rabley Gallery on projects and editions. \nIn 2022 The Golder-Thompson Gift established an archive at Chippenham Museum of prints made at the studio. This documents the span of work made at INK on PAPER PRESS to the present day\, it includes a print made by each of the artists that have worked with Blackhall and the collection will continue to grow on into the future.[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner equal_height=”yes” content_placement=”middle” remove_bottom_col_margin=”true”][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]https://inkonpaperpress.com[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″]Instagram[/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner equal_height=”yes” content_placement=”middle” remove_bottom_col_margin=”true”][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]https://amy-janeblackhall.co.uk[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″]Instagram[/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row remove_bottom_col_margin=”true”][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]

She regularly teaches and demonstrates linocut techniques across the UK. She made her first linocut print at secondary school but had a long break with the process until ten years ago\, when she fell back in love with printmaking. She has since exhibited her linocut prints on four occasions at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition\, as well as at numerous galleries across the UK. Other previous shows include with the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers\, the Royal Watercolour Society\, the Society of Women Artists and the New English Art Club. In 2018 she reached the semi-final of Sky Arts Landscape Artist Of The Year. Alongside Lisa’s artistic practice she works as a materials and studio specialist for Jackson’s Art Supplies\, and has contributed articles and illustrations to popular printmaking publication Pressing Matters. \nlisatakahashi.com[/vc_column_text]Instagram[/vc_column][/vc_row]
